EMBRACING THE POPULARITY OF WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY AT THE GYM
Myzone heart rate devices now integrate in real time with Life Fitness Discover SE3HD, SE3, and ST consoles.
Myzone users can:
- View Myzone stats like % HR Max, MEPS, Calories Burned, Color Zone in real-time on the console
- Save Life Fitness workouts directly to the Myzone app for workout tracking and MEPs accumulation
Embracing The Popularity of Wearable Technology
For the last six years, Wearable Technology has been a staple in the annual survey of top fitness trends compiled by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). It was listed second on the list of trends to look for in 2021 and before that was the No. 1 trend four out of five years.
Wearables—classified by the ACSM as including “fitness trackers, smart watches, heart rate monitors and GPS tracking devices”—have become a huge part of fitness. And they’ve developed far beyond basic step counters. It’s essential that health clubs and fitness facilities be aware of their popularity and how they continue to evolve.
Health Club Cardio Integration
These devices no longer operate strictly on their own. For example, wearable technology like the Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch sync with certain connected Life Fitness consoles to provide an exerciser with real-time workout data.
That integration continues with the recent addition of Myzone to cardio equipment with connected premium Life Fitness consoles. Myzone combines a heart rate strap with cloud technology to monitor physical activity. It also uses inclusive, game-based mechanics and social elements to build communities together on the Myzone app.
With the integration of Life Fitness cardio equipment, exercisers can view MyZone stats (% HR Max, MEPS, Calories Burned, and Colour Zone) in real-time on the console. Health clubs can benefit by using Myzone to assist in group training environments where additional visuals are beneficial and differentiating for the facility.
The Rapid Growth of Digital Technology in Fitness
The Myzone integration is another example of how exercisers are using technology to create better workout experiences. The 2021 ACSM trends report clearly lays out the importance of technology in the fitness industry. Three digital-related trends appeared in the top 10 this year. Online Training made its debut at No. 1 and Virtual Training showed up at No. 6.
Exercisers are certainly paying attention to fitness apps and digital solutions to make their workouts better. It’s essential that health clubs follow their lead
1. What Myzone work with the LF integration?
The MZ-1, MZ-3, and MZ-Switch will work with Life Fitness.
2. Do I need to stream to the Myzone app in order for the Myzone tile to display on the cardio equipment?
No, you do not need to stream to the Myzone app if you connected the belt to the console. The Myzone tile on the cardio screen replaces the need to stream to the Myzone app.
3. Why do I have to disconnect my Myzone belt from my phone?
Since the MZ-1 and MZ-3 can only speak to 1 device at a time via Bluetooth, you will need to keep your Myzone app closed on your phone and only connect your belt to the cardio machine.
4. How does a workout on the cardio machine upload to my Myzone account?
Your workout will upload to your Myzone account via the cardio machine after you complete a workout. You do not need to open the Myzone app and upload the workout manually.
5. Where on a Life Fitness or Cybex cardio machine will the Myzone tile show?
The Myzone tile will show both in the workout & on the workout summary screen.
6. What happens when the LF console is offline?
If the console is offline at the facility, you will not be able to connect your belt to the console at all. You will then need to use the Myzone app to view your effort like normal.
7. Does the belt auto disconnect from the console when they press stop or finish their workout or will it stay connected if in range?
The console will disconnect from the belt upon ending the workout.
