ANYTIME FITNESS ROTORUA
Anytime Fitness Rotorua had purchased a new building across the road from the existing gym and was in need of a re-invention. Life Fitness NZ Key Accounts Manager, Nick Cheesman worked extensively with the owner Ric Boyd on this project. The owner wanted to make the new gym a standout amongst the Anytime Fitness group and grow the business.
Over the course of several extensive consultations we understood their business as well as they did. Research was undertaken to highlight what areas and demographics could be identified as the best potential for overall growth, we spoke to members and ran a survey and came up with the information together. Doing this allowed us to have a more focused understanding of what we needed to achieve in the space, mainly creating more functional space but keeping some of the old things that worked well in the old club.
By starting on the gym floor first, allowed us to work the space best in achieving our goals for growing the business. When looking at maximising the space, while considering the already large membership base they intended to grow upon, we needed to open up the idea to a new bathroom layout. We changed the
large private spaces to smaller shower spaces, where members could still get changed comfortably, to allow more bathrooms to be added.
By doing this it meant we needed to create a space to get ready, so this is where we created a shared space for male and females to do their hair and makeup. A space where its all set up with hair dryers, mirrors, bag hooks, benches, and everything members need to comfortably get ready.
In the first week of opening the club superseded their expectations on new memberships and we exceeded our expectations with having more members in the club at any one time. The icing on the cake was the club went on to win club of the year. This same model now is what we replicate in all new Anytime Fitness gyms throughout NZ.
“Over 2 years ago in Rotorua we were in an Anytime Fitness club approximately 400m². We had 1200 members and found we were at capacity. After a long deliberation and consideration to moving sites and speaking with Life Fitness we decided to take the plunge and move into a 500m² site. Life Fitness sat with us for a number of hours and over the next few weeks with many plans being thrown out we came up with a plan to house our existing equipment along with new equipment to maximise space and minimise wasted space.
As you can see from the photos it turned out to be known as probably the nicest club in New Zealand for the Anytime Fitness model. With the help from many people and with never being satisfied with just the first plan we ended up with this amazing club that I’m proud to walk into every day. Thanks to everybody and all their hard work, this was a major success. Over the past 2 years we have grown by 30% and look forward to seeing what the future looks like in this ever changing industry. Again, thanks to all who had a part to play in this. We sure appreciate you.”
