Allan Brewster Leisure Centre
Life Fitness NZ and Auckland Council have had a longstanding relationship of the years. An extensive review of all the Auckland Council’s gyms to determine the vision and requirements for each gym was undertaken. Allan Brewster Recreational Centre was identified as one gym that needed an overhaul.
Colin from Life Fitness NZ, along with the Gym Team Leader and Fitness Leader for Auckland Council worked together to develop a new plan and direction for the club. Colin had invaluable experience for this project, having trained at this gym many times, therefore understanding how the gym operated and flowed from a users perspective.
With the fitness market changing and demand for more space and functional workout option increased, we suggested that the gym reduce the amount of equipment in the gym and replace tired pieces of equipment with more training options. The old adage that more is better made this gym cluttered. By downsizing the cardio and adding in some self-powered options, we maximised the space we had. The option to move the self-powered cardio into the circuit area gives the club the option to run classes and help deal with large numbers in peak times.
In addition a completely new layout, including an improved stretch and novice training area, and flooring option was recommended to create a better flow and open up the club. We organised the plate loaded equipment and created a dedicated deadlifting and power lifting zone. The new turf running lanes and new rubber flooring has lifted the whole gym and given it a new lease of life.
